Chesapeake Bay Skipjack

The Ida May Project opening at the Delmarva Discovery Center

This blog has been part of a larger project we've been working on about the Ida May for several years now.  In addition to this blog, the project also includes a documentary film, an audio/visual installation and a community screening program.  We will be having an exhibition at the Delamarva Discovery Center from June 2- Sept 8 where the Ida May will be docked from June 2-16, the documentary will be shown for the duration of the exhibition, the audio/visual installation will be on display, and a community screeing program will be travelling around the bay to build awareness of Skipjack heritage.  We hope you can make it to the opening at the DDC on June 2nd frm 2-4pm, but if you can't, we hope you can make it out to see the exhibition at some point during its' 3 month stay at the DDC.  Please see complete information below.

THE IDA MAY PROJECT
JUNE 2 - SEPTEMBER 8, 2012

THE DELMARVA DISCOVERY CENTER
2 MARKET STREET, POCOMOKE CITY, MD 21851

OPENING RECEPTION
Saturday June 2, 2012
2-4pm

In 2005, Gordon and Elbert Gladden pulled their Skipjack Ida May, out of the water for routine repairs only to discover that a large amount of the boat was rotten and would have to be rebuilt.  This project, created and developed by David and Tara Gladden, chronicles the restoration process while delving into the family’s long history with Skipjacks.  It presents a personal view into the greater history and importance of the Skipjack to the heritage and culture of Maryland’s Eastern Shore.  It is comprised of a weekly blog, audio/visual installation, documentary film and community screening program.  The newly restored Ida May will be docked at the DDC from June 2 - June 16, 2012.   The documentary film will be premiered at the opening reception at 2:30pm.  Light refreshments will be served.  The public is invited to attend.
